There were trending reports from different sources that the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was sacked. Well, Independent Newspaper has verified that the man was not sacked. Reno Omokri also affirmed that he spoke to someone in the authority, who confirmed that Emefiele was not sacked.

Recall that Godwin Emefiele had purchased his Presidential Interest nomination form at the rate of N100 million in APC. Emefiele was also among the ministers, plus Ngige and Abubakar Malami, that refused to resign their appointments after the order from President Buhari.

Emefiele will be contesting to win the APC presidential ticket in their forthcoming presidential primary election.

As such, in contrast to the trending story in some online media, Independent Newspaper stated this:

“A very reliable source from the Central Bank media desk has stated that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor is still very much on his desk without the threat of a sack.”

Another verifiable source, Reno Omokri, affirmed that Emefiele was not sacked. Reno tweeted this few minutes ago:

“I spoke to a very top shot in the CBN about the news that Buhari sacked CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele. His response ‘as far as I know, it is false’”

Well, the spread of fake news can go faster than the wide fire. However, effort must be out in place to curtail the fake news.

So, as at the moment of this report, Godwin Emefiele is still the CBN Governor.
