Two journalists and a photojournalist from The PUNCH newspaper are among nine finalists for the 2023 African Media Development Foundation award.
They are Solomon Odeniyi, Chima Azubuike and Olukayode Jaiyeola.
Other finalists are Chenemi Bamaiyi of TVC; Martha Agas of News Agency of Nigeria; Ojoma Akor of Daily Trust; Philip Yatai of News Agency of Nigeria and Shindong Bala of Radio Nigeria.
Announcing the finalists in a statement on Thursday, the Executive Director of the foundation, Sekyen Dadik said the finalists were from five categories which are print, online, photo, television, and radio.
“According to the Panel Chaired by Joseph Edegbo, Managing Editor of Africa Prime News, the finalists have demonstrated professional skills in their stories by going deep into writing issue-based development stories.
“The winners, runners-up, and commended works will be announced and presented awards during the Africa Conference on Development Journalism in Kaduna Nigeria, to be held on December 6 and 7, 2023,” the statement added.
She also said an Honorary Lifetime Award for Journalistic Excellence will be conferred on the former General Manager, Companion FM, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Katsina Station, Hajiya Hauwa Saulawa, for her immeasurable contribution to the promotion of developmental journalism in Nigeria.
